Get Hearing Aid Insurance     

You can get hearing aid insurance through your audiologist to make sure that they are covered if lost or stolen.  You will have peace of mind and be able to know that your hearing aids are covered and that you will not have to go through your trip without them. 

Get Your Hearing Aids Serviced   

Before setting of on the road, go in to see your audiologist and have them perform regular maintenance on the hearing aids.  They can give them an adequate cleaning and be sure that they are in good shape.  They also have an on-the-go cleaning kit available for patients that will include a wax kit, a soft brush and a cloth to keep them clean each day that you are away. 

Get Audio Assistance     

Your audiologist will have assisted listening devices available to you that can be used in places where there is excess background noise.  These devices will give you the ability to hear someone speaking to you and will allow you to communicate clearly with others in a crowded room.  You will also be able to clearly hear important information that may be sent out over a speaker.  Airports, bus and train stations will be a breeze with an assisted listening device.    

Get Protection from Moisture     

Be sure that you have packed a good way to protect the hearing aids in case of rain or other inclement weather while you are on your trip.  Moisture can affect a hearing aid and can cause it to stop working.  A rain hat or umbrella will reduce the chance of water getting into them.  Having a dry kit will keep moisture away from them after you remove them.  You may also choose to bring along a hearing aid dehumidifier if necessary.  

Bring Extra Supplies      

You have several extra accessories that you must bring on your trip, in case they are needed while you are away from home.  Extra batteries and tubes are necessary items to pack.  Be sure to keep all supplies clean and dry.

Check Hotel Reservations Ahead       

Talk with your hotel beforehand to ensure that you receive a room that is suited for the hearing impaired.  Hotels have special features available for people suffering from hearing loss.  These special rooms have visual notifications for the door, the telephone and for alarms. 

Alert the Airline     

When you make airline reservations, you can request that any gate or departure changes be directly sent to a cell phone so that you are aware of them immediately.  This way, you are not missing any alerts issued over the speaker in the gate waiting area.
