Summer is a fun time for your children, but it can also be a dangerous time for your child. There are a lot of dangers in summer that you may take for granted, but in order for your child to stay safe, there are a few things you should remember and teach your child about as well. Read on for some summer safety tips to help keep your child safe this summer.
Apply Sunscreen
Apply sunscreen to your child's skin and teach your child the importance of wearing it. Sunscreen can help prevent sunburn to your child's sensitive skin. It can also prevent your child from being exposed to the sun's harmful rays, which can cause skin cancer. Apply sunscreen to your child of at least SPF 50 or more. Apply liberally to your child's skin and remember to apply after your child has been swimming or sweating. Don't forget those sensitive areas such as your child's head, neck, and ears.
Prevent Drowning
Keep an eye on your child when around water of any kind, especially if you have a pool, or you take your child swimming anywhere. Keep a close eye on your child and be sure to take precautions such as having your child wear a life vest. Prevent your child from drowning by taking your child to swimming lessons to teach your child how to swim.
Teach Your Child About Stranger Danger
Teach your child about strangers and about the dangers of being too trusting. Teach your child about boundaries and about good touch and bad touch. Remember to teach your child to tell you anything and everything, especially if anyone makes them feel uncomfortable.
Keep Your Child Hydrated
Remember that when your child is outside playing all day long, your child can get dehydrated. Keep your child drinking water throughout the day, and teach your child the importance of drinking water every day to stay hydrated and for the health benefits that water can give to your child.
Prevent Bug Bites
Prevent bug bites by applying insect repellent to your child's skin. Bug bites can be irritating for your child, especially little ones. Apply an insect repellent when your child is outside at night, or when outside in the grass or in forest areas where bugs are more prone to bite your child.
Protect your child this summer by using the safety tips above. Take your child to the pediatrician for any health and well-being issues that you may have questions about.
